CBD + CBZ
SLO City is getting into the weeds on cannabis regulation. First it was # of businesses, then the decision to place the Cannabis Business Tax Ordinance on the November ballot so we can all vote on it (and by all, we mean those registered to vote in the city), and last night, Planning Commish unanimously recommended that seven Cannabis Business Zones (CBZ) be added to the city’s zoning docs – with slight changes to the zones as outlined in the staff report.
If city council moves forward with this, canna-businesses may be located in these CBZs including a few places on and off Higuera, the south side of Broad near Orcutt Rd., by the airport, and on Sacramento. Businesses who want to operate in one of these areas still have to comply with other zoning regs – bluntly, a retail cannabis business would still need to be on a lot zoned for retail in one of these areas, and the same would be true for manufacturing, cultivation, etc. Now we just wait and see who will be the first trail-BLAZER (or perhaps it will be a JOINT-venture) to open up shop and help keep SLO as one of the smiliest places in America. #buddingindustry
