Not your average Holiday Inn
The original Motel Inn, or what’s left standing of the dilapidated structures at the north end of Monterey Street in SLO, has FINALLY received a lifeline. Putting SLOtown on the map almost 100 years ago as the very first motel in the world, this iconic property originally known as the Milestone Mo-Tel is hot to trot for a makeover. After years upon years of delays, shocking we know, Covelop (part of the development team and one of our awesome supporters might we add) has permits in hand and is ready to get down to biz.
The new hotel will have 55 rooms, including bungalows with Spanish Revival architecture as a nod to the old and 26 vintage airstream trailers. A steakhouse restaurant will be operated next door and we suspect the finished product will be worth the wait, as the Motel Inn is set to serve tourists for the next century. Just expect to pay a smidge more than the $1.25/night charged in 1925.
