Coastal cannabis chaos

The SLOOOO motion legal cannabis train continues to chug along (sorta). Filed under progress, last week the City of SLO announced it’s five approved pot businesses. Alas, those happy delivery and retail shops stood in stark contrast to other local weed woes, i.e. illegal grows destroyed, a Grover Beach shop under a cloud of suspicion, and those fighting to comply with SLO County’s “broken” permitting system. Seems the Supes couldn’t bring themselves to approve the first fully compliant cannabis project (on York Mountain Road) because… neighbors. They just don’t think outdoor cannabis “fits in” with existing ag properties, aka, wineries and multi-million-dolla homes that might get a whiff of that sticky icky… so the project had to go all-indoor.
After the York Mountain outdoor grow got single-handledly nixed by a prominent citizen/restauranteur who lives nowhere near the project, Supervisor Lynn Compton then got Arnold and Peschong with her to direct staff to change the county ordinance to ban outdoor grows entirely… causing farmers to wonder if this board is pro-ag after all. Stay tuned for how this all turns out, in addition to the dozens of projects still in limbo.
