Major city goals winning
In the 2nd-ever State of the City last week, Mayor Harmon and City Manager Johnson touted accomplishments and came clean about challenges like yuge pension obligations, Diablo’s closure (you may have heard of it), lack of housing [yup], affordability [yup] & diversity [yup]. Stop us if you’ve heard this before. Streamed on FB Live [and you thought govt. wasn’t kewl], the city’s budget is projected to be in the black.
Meanwhile, they celebrated their 2035 carbon neutral goal, tiny home permitting, 19 EV chargers Dtown, the city dump’s new green/food waste bio-digester, a federal hydro power grant for Lake Nacimiento, bikeability upgrades, new flights to Dallas/Denver and street renos like Laurel Lane. They plan to save a cool ~$20 mill by paying pension liabilities early, gain $1.8 mill from the PG&E Diablo settlement, $600k/yr+ (for locals) by implementing Community Choice Energy in January, and ~$9 mill from internal efficiencies like employee concessions and the cannabis tax. All good stuff… but apparently not enough to Fund the Future, so the city wants you to weigh in with your thoughts here on how to do just that.
