City emergency ordinance enacted
Good news for the 65% of y’all who don’t own homes here— SLO City Council acted to make AB 1482, the state’s Tenant Protection Act of 2019, effective IMMEDIATELY after multiple complaints from residents regarding yuge rent increases and no-cause eviction notices ahead of the bill’s January implementation.
Not familiar with AB 1482? Well, let us explain fair reader. Gov. Gav signed the bill into law last month, capping annual rent increases to no more than 10% a year AND requiring landlords to show just cause before evicting a tenant in good standing. The state law, which will remain in place for 10 years, is part of a package of laws passed this year to address the state’s lack of affordable housing. Thanks to letters from SLOCO YIMBY, Scoopers like you, and others, council acted swiftly to join 27 other California cities who have enacted similar measures. Go team!
