Coming soon… to a theater near you… could be… a six story mixed use project in the heart of DT! Dun-dun-duuuuuhhhh! The proposal has retail & restaurants at street level, 2 floors of office space above that, and 50 apartments at the tippy top. While requiring 25% moderate income housing, the project puts residences where jobs are and provides a type of housing that SLO lacks: efficiency sized studios serving folx that don’t need a car. Some aren’t shy about the perceived downsides: 75 foot height is the maximum allowed and the 9 (rideshare, we’ve heard) parking spaces take the place of 102 normally required. Instead they’ve got parking for 100 resident bikes & 28 for everyone else!
On Tuesday, Council concluded the project meets regulations, affirms community goals and provides community benefit for the adjacent downtown centre and paseo. The evolving landscape of DT is inevitable but with a lengthy entitlement process still to go, there’s plenty of time for input when the proposal goes to CHC, ARC, PC and ultimately back to Council. Love it? Hate it? Want to offer some suggestions? Now’s the time!
