Gerrymander like its hot

In the spirit of Christmas, err democracy, a group of local citizens banded together to start SLO County Citizens for Good Government (SLOCCGG) Say that 5 times fast. This group of bipartisan residents has announced plans to file a lawsuit because the newly adopted County BoS redistricting map appears to blatantly violate CA Election Law. Drawn by resident Richard Patten, backed by the Republican party, the new map radically redraws the Board of Supervisors’ district boundaries to favor… themselves. It split apart longstanding communities of interest, packs most Dems into two oddly-shaped districts, robs 7200 Dems of a vote next time around, and hands Reps a solid advantage in 3 out of 5 districts. So even though Dems make up the majority of voters in SLO County, they’d be destined to be a minority on the Board for at least a decade. Smells like classic gerrymandering to us.
So far nearly 1,000 donors have pitched in $190,000 of the $200,000 goal – well daaaayum! If you stared bulgy-eyed and open-jawed during this whole redistricting fiasco, please consider donating and put yerself on their email list for updates to help fight for fairness in our local elections. #MakeDemocracyEasier
