Fillers for our future
Not that SLO needs a facelift, but a little nip/tuck here, some fillers there, will accentuate the amazingness that is our downtown. Unanimously endorsed on 7/12 by the Creative Vision Team, the Downtown Concept Plan final public draft was reviewed by Planning Commish yesterday. Pending approval this fall, the plan will be our 25-year guiding vision for downtown public and private development. The vision takes into account factors such as community input, self-driving cars, evolving retail experience, our aging population, future housing choices, and sustainability. Plans include a roundabout as the downtown gateway from Hwy 101/Higuera; a pedestrian-friendly plaza extending from Marsh/Broad to Pacific/Nipomo with outdoor dining and events; a re-envisioned Monterey St with pedestrians and cyclists taking priority over cars; expansion of the vibrant Court St pedestrian-only area; and a Monterey St bridge providing the downtown connection from the railroad safety trail. Check for updates here and keep informed via e-notifications. (Downtown/Mission Plaza checkboxes).
