Supes insanity

Remember the cannabis chaos at SLO County? Sadly, it’s playing out again with cousin hemp. After shutting down new grows, then extending the moratorium which sent farmers packing, the Board of Supes, led by Debbie Arnold, briefly pretended to care what a committee of AG experts and County staff had to say. Pulling a Zoolander, grow sites now must be at least…40x bigger, with setback requirements doubled, hoop houses banned and no grows in Edna Valley. The onerous new limitations were a slap in the face to stakeholders who spent time crafting reasonable regs, creating a de-facto ban of the supremely useful plant in our region leaving insiders stunned. At least this time they had the ballz to kill this baby before it got out of the cradle. (R.I.P. cannabis)
On the plus side: growing hemp in greenhouses will be allowed. Whether it’s financially feasible is another story. While it appears to be a done deal, email or voicemail the Supes with your thoughts on this bass-ackwards job killing policy.
