Styrofoam free to roam?

Hopefully you all had somewhere more fun to be…but those of us who tuned in to the IWMA [Integrated Waste Management Authority] meeting yesterday witnessed a dazzling display of circular logic regarding a potential REPEAL of the polystyrene & expanded polystyrene (aka styrofoam) ordinance set to take effect this April.
Despite written or spoken opposition from nearly 200 individuals, organizations or businesses who would be affected (sound familiar?), the Board used a “state mandate-only” approach chosen in November 2020 as cover for doing away with the popular environmental regulation adopted in October 2019. Of course, ordinances aren’t built in a day, so we can all look forward (backward?) to a repeal hearing and public comment March 10. Kudos to Dawn Ortiz-Legg, Keith Storton & Andy Pease for attempting to find common ground, and shout out to Luke Dunn, who got in the last word with this searing zinger: “What would Aaron Gomez say?” Email your thoughts before 3/10 to the IWMA Board on how styrofoam’s GOT TO GO and stay gone.
