Local relief & funding under way

While we’ve all waited months for the fed gov to do … welp, ANYTHING, our local municipality has been steppin. it. up. SLO City Council is funding $500,000 for more local small biz relief grants + $425,000 for more D-town efforts [like the festive Light Up D-town pandemic-friendly holiday activities]. And while the pandemic has sped up Bezos’ threat to extinct small businesses, council took matters into their own hands to fund a shopping incentive program that will LITERALLY pay you back to #shoplocal.
While the eviction moratorium may have gotten a brief extension in the new congressional stimulus package, homelessness is on the rise and will continue to worsen as folx fall further behind on rent. SLO Council also approved $300,000 toward regional efforts to address homelessness, including funding a new full-time employee through 2023 to develop a homelessness strategic plan and expand partnerships to maximize services for those in need. Money will also go towards Human Relations Commission grants, SLO PD’s Community Action Team and partnerships with CAPSLO & Downtown SLO. So give the SLO Life some love – give back locally and support local biz – not just this holiday season but ery day!
