If It Don’t Make Dollaz, It Don’t Make Sense

PG&E makes it rain to ease closure.

In case ya missed it, Diablo is closing. It means a massive loss in local tax revenue to the tune of almost $26M per year. That’s not to mention the near $1B (yes, B, as in billion) the plant brings to the local economy! PG&E is cementing their commitment to the community with an impact settlement between $122.5 and $147.5M. Most of the funds are for the kiddos. Further deets here.

Terminal Expense.

Ya’ll notice that new 56,000 square foot building going up near the airport? Turns out, that behemoth will be the new digs for ~300,000 people to pass through each year, as the SLO County Airport Terminal expansion is halfway complete. Annnd it’s going to be awesome! Four gates, walls of windows, more TSA creepiness, $4+ million over budget and the minimal hope of a Denver connector. #imsoexcited

What’s That Smell?

The 5-year plan to handle your shiiiiit.

You dirty, dirty minds out there –  this is about none other than the controversial location for the new Morro Bay Water Reclamation Facility. After the Coastal Commission denied an upgrade of the current facility years ago, Morro Bay City Council has been studying feasible sites for a new treatment plant. When Morro Valley was chosen as the ideal location, surrounding residents got their panties in a bunch. We get it, ‘build a poo plant near my backyard’ said nobody ever. With the threat of lawsuits looming, City staff now advocate for a site near South Bay Boulevard and hope to complete the project within 5 years, costing a mere $126-$140 million. The crap business is looking pretttty lucrative. Check out their Master [poop] Plan here. #howmanywayscanIwritepoo

Could you be the next local hero?

Finally an app you can justify being addicted to. SLOFD will be launching a new app called PulsePoint that will give you a heads up when someone needs CPR within a quarter mile of your public location. Talk about a life saver … LITERALLY. So brush up on those CPR skills, download that new app and come down to Farmers this Thursday for a demonstration from SLO City’s finest firefighters. Is it getting hot in here?

Reefer Referendum

scoops · November 17, 2016

Get off the couch and be heard.

Dejected about our last election? Well, now you can legally get high to ease the pain. Prop 64, which treats pot like alcohol, passed with 56% yes vote. Maine, Massachusetts and Nevada also ended prohibition on the peaceful plant. Questions remain about what the county and local cities will do about cultivation and retail. They may be cool like Grover Beach or they may be lame like Paso Robles. It’s up to us to make our voice heard.

20 Under 40

More than a participation trophy for millennials.

For 12 years running, the Tribune will honor 20 of the most impactful U40 individuals. Last year’s winners were selected from over 75 nominations – wha-what. Criteria? 1) Younger than 40 on or before 1/1/17. 2) Live & work in SLO County year-round. 3) Demonstrated professional excellence in their field. 4) Display a commitment to community service. If someone you know finds the time between Netflix binges to qualify, you should def nominate them, like today, slacker. Deadline is noon this Friday.

Push Ya Dollas to Do Double the Good

scoops · November 3, 2016

P-push it real good.

Groundbreaking strides were made this week on the new county Homeless Services Center with a ceremony held Wednesday at 40 Prado Lane in SLO. [cue the big smiles and gold shovels] The momentum keeps on rollin’ as the final push of cash money needed to complete the fundraising could be just days away. Rick Stollmeyer (AKA our local MindBody guru, err, CEO) and his wife Jill, have pledged to match every dolla-bill you donate, up to $125K – which would give the center the remaining $250K needed for their $5.4 mill. goal. Boom.

The innovative facility will consolidate the homeless services under one roof. The collaborative network, which is desperately needed for our county, will better aid our homeless population on paths toward stability and permanent housing. So break out those dolla-bills and take some sage advice from Salt-n-Peppa.  #GetUpOnThis
