Another County head scratcher
Our County Board of Supes continues to provide plenty of eye-popping decisions. Despite massive opposition (sound familiar?), BoS voted 3-2 last week to revert to the older model of elections in the County going forward. This means an end to early voting (welcome back to in-person, on voting day only), no more Voter Service Centers (your specific polling place only, not where’s most convenient for ya) and no more automatic Vote by Mail ballots sent to everyone like last year. Only peeps who request a Vote by Mail ballot will receive one going forward, so sign up now, yeah?
This decision came at the end of an EPIC, nearly FOURTEEN HOUR meeting, that saw 3 hours eaten up by recorded calls opposing a vaccine passport (ummm, not even on the agenda??). It was hard not to fall out of your chair listening to Supes Arnold & Compton give so much credence to the “will of the people” concerned about their “freedoms,” yet turn around and reject the majority opinions from the County Clerk-Recorder survey on how constituents prefer to vote, in addition to the 4 hours of public comment. But hey, who’s counting!? Perhaps a future change up in the Board in 2022 will lead to sounder decision making.
