Feeling duped by trustees and supes
While we pat ourselves on the back for enormous voter turnout and civic engagement last month, local public officials have been straight up ignoring their constituents. From school boards to county supes to the courthouse, electeds have turned their backs to recent public outcry. On 11/20, the County Board of Supes voted to raise the per-person campaign contribution for county-wide positions to $25,000 … more than 5 TIMES the State’s suggested level. This is despite HOURS of public comment and hundreds of calls/emails from citizens voicing opposition, with allegedly zero in support. Hmmm.
In further shenanigans, Cuesta Board of Trustee’s President Pete Sysak, “refused to be bullied,” by the dozens of campus & community members, as well as literally ALL his fellow trustees, who called for his resignation for racist and anti-LGBTQIA+ comments and memes on Facebook. It is expected he’ll be censured at the next Board meeting on 12/9. While we’d normally encourage all y’all to make your voice heard, it’s plain these folks just don’t want to listen. Meet ya at the ballot box in 2022!
