Park for the arts
Driving full speed ahead through the approval process is SLO Repertory Theatre’s new building and adjacent new city parking structure, proposed for Nipomo St. between Monterey and Palm as part of the proposed Downtown Arts District. Last week, SLO Planning Commish approved both structures 5-1 after a 3-hour meeting where drama geeks, arts & culture enthusiasts, and downtown devotees took to the spotlight reciting their monologues to Commissioners about the need for SLO Rep’s new larger space and the city’s new garage. Naysayers are minimal, with opponents saying downtown don’t need no mo’ parking, or that the dilapidated 1939 Adobe house on site should be saved/relocated.
After a brief intermission, the two proposed projects head to City Council Tue Nov. 12 for their final Act in the approval process. Got thoughts on drama or parking? Send your email to council ahead of the 6:30 pm meeting, or come in person & show ‘em your jazz hands. #razzledazzle
