G is for ground: keeping carbon in there
By now you’ve seen the signs & ads and heard the arguments [& screams] for and against the countywide fracking ban: Measure G. But what is it really about and who is funding these campaigns? Put simply, it bans the future possibility of fracking and many planned new oil wells. We wish it were that simple, though. If it passes, and survives the courts, it will allow existing wells to operate and eventually (not tomorrow, as opponents have been saying) dry up … costing around 32-76 jobs and ~$2.3 million/yr in taxes.
Big Oil companies like Chevron and others have put almost $8 mill into the NO on G campaign… hence the multiple freakin NO ads in every Trib issue & KSBY commercial break. YES on G raised just $248k from regular folks. RECAP … to allow current and future oil production to keep on keepin’ on, vote NO… but if you’re into getting our economy off fossil fuels & protecting water … or like to choose David over Goliath, vote YES.
