Pot for Pensions!
After pumping the brakes last year to allow more time to consider the state’s legalization of cannabis, SLO just became, wait for it, wait for it … SLO County’s first city to approve retail recreational pot sales. Up to 3 pot peddlers (one with medical access) along with 70k sq.ft. of sticky, smelly indoor canopy have been approved, along with new delivery, manufacturing, testing and distribution businesses. These will only be allowed inside a super strict set of pre-approved zones away from residential areas, parks and schools (sorry, Poly potheads). Cannabis events ain’t gonna fly for now, but council was chill with personal outdoor plants, and all new businesses are required to be carbon neutral, which is amaze.
So, there’s got to be a catch, right? Ding, ding, ding: None, zero, zilch of these new laws will actually go into effect if voters don’t approve a local city tax on cannabis in November. SLO City Council reeeeeally wants to solve the pension problem by taxing Mary Jane … so it’s ultimately up to us on this one. #goganja
